Admission Requirements

In order to qualify for admission and to operate equipment in Canada and the United States, applicants must:
  1. Must be 18 years of age (The minimum age for driving a commercial vehicle to the United States is 21).
  2. Must not have criminal record for which a United State Waiver can not be granted (Person may not be able to cross into the United States without a Waiver).
  3. Must have Canadian Pardon for which a United States waiver can not be granted (Person may not be able to cross into the United States without a waiver).
  4. (A). Must be able to read and speak English Language sufficiently to converse with the general public. To understand highway traffic signs and signals in English language under Subpart B # 391.11 (2) Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations in the United States.
    (B) Must have grade 10 English or equivalent.
  5. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test as outlined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation under Section # 382.301 pre-employment testing.
  6. Must pass Ontario and United States medical requirements (The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has special requirements for blood pressure, blood sugar levels, eyesight, hearing and other physical criteria).
  7. Must be able to obtain a visa in order to cross to the U.S. (U.S. Law).
  8. Must have current Ontario “G” license (Should have no more than 3 demerit points) to be considered for training.
  9. Must provide a 3 month drivers abstract at the time of the interview. This will help us determine your best options for training.
  10. Should be able to be away from home from 1 to 2 weeks at a time. (Most companies looking for long-haul drivers are gone on the road usually for a week or longer).
  11. Should not have more than 2 tickets for moving violations in the past 3 years.
  12. Should not have more than one ‘at fault” accident in the past 5 years.
  13. Should not have had a driver’s license suspension in the past 3 years.
  14. Must never been convicted for possession, sales or transfer of narcotics drugs, amphetamines or derivatives. This will affect your USA entry as a driver.
  15. Should be able to operate standard transmission if the person is being considered for a G-AZ licensing program. If not training will take longer.
  16. Should be able to operate non-synchronized transmission if the person being considered for the truck driving upgrade to AZ licensing program. (If the person has DZ license and does not know how to operate a non-synchronized transmission we would only consider them for our G-AZ license program).
  17. Must pass an in depth interview with the driving school before being accepted.
  18. Applicant should have access to a vehicle. This will make it much easier to go to job interviews.
  19. Must have good attitude.
  20. Must be presentable.
  21. Must be able to obtain a FAST card to work for most international carriers.(contact us for details)
NOTE: Adanac will have the right to refuse any student who does not pass this interview. After consultation with the funding agency, employer, or student Adanac maintains the right to terminate any student at any time during the course that is not acting in the professional and safe manner or maintaining grade levels of at least 80%.


Special consideration may be given to applicant with verifiable previous experience and/or job offers.

For applicants applying for advance standing. The applicant will be required to complete a practical road test.
